Sophie's first swim meet

Sophie has been taking swimming lessons again this summer. She did pretty good last year, but they were really just beginner's lessons. This year she is part of a swim team, the "Pacers" and she has swimming lessons four times a week for one hour. She is quite good at the backstroke, and does ok on the other's. She hasn't quite figured out yet how to exhale under water, but once she has that down, you better watch out, because she will be a strong swimmer.

Most importantly she enjoyes swimming and has a lot of fun. She is excited to show us her newest skills and always looks forward to her next lesson, although she sometimes says she doesn't want to go back the next day, after a particular hard practice.

This Saturday she had her first swim meet. That's Pacer talk for a swim competition. Elizabeth stayed home with the boys, since they were still a little sickly and I took Sophie. She was quite excited. It was a humbling experience for me to hear her say how much fun she had and that she enjoyed the competition, although she was last in the butterfly contest and placed 8th out of nine in the backstroke. Her words were: "I did my best, Daddy and I had fun!"
